Looking for a new four-legged friend for life? Look no further! On October 13 and 14, the most adoptable pets ever in one spot will be available at the Bay Area Pet Fair & Adoptathon. If you’re not looking to adopt, but just want to have fun with the family and your pets, this great gathering is the place for you, too. And for the first time this year, admission is free of charge. Parking is also free.
Among the many great things to do and watch:
Stunt Dogs, a theme-park-caliber stage show, will feature rescue dogs doing high-flying tricks during three shows per day.
Splash Dogs will offer a dock-diving show as well as a chance for your dogs to jump in and get wet.
Marin Humane Society will provide an agility course for your pets to try out and will present a flyball demonstration on Sunday.
The Police and Working K-9 Foundation will showcase Bay Area police K-9 teams both days.
Dozens of pet treat, food, apparel, and accessory vendors will showcase their wares and offer great giveaways.
The special area for the kids will feature face painting, a puppet show from Napa Humane Society, balloons, and more.
In addition to all these festivities, more than 40 Bay Area pet adoption groups and shelters will present adoptable dogs, cats, bunnies, small animals – and probably some chickens, too!
“We put on this fair to raise awareness of the huge number of adoptable animals available through Bay Area rescue groups and shelters and to find them loving, new homes,” said Mike Murray, Director of Community Outreach for Pet Food Express (PFE), organizer and main sponsor of this very special event. Pet Food Express will donate $50 back to rescues and shelters for each pet adopted during the fair, and each adopting family will receive a $25 Pet Food Express gift card for supplies.
In 2011, The Marin Humane Society and Pet Food Express revived the popular event and invited rescue and shelter partners from all over the Bay Area to participate. At the 2011 Bay Area Pet Fair & Adoptathon last year, 435 pets were adopted. The goal for 2012 is 500 pets going to forever homes over the weekend.
Want to attend? It’s all happening at the Marin Center, 10 Avenue of the Flags, San Rafael from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and 14. Remember: admission is free, and so is parking!
