Well folks, summer is officially over, and we have entered autumn. It’s a great time to take stock of our health and wellness and squirrel away a few canine-self-care tips for winter. We are happy to bring this month’s edition of Bay Woof to you with a variety of articles on the topic of canine health and wellness.
Have you ever noticed how easily you can spot a healthy and happy puppy? Simply walking into a home where there are vibrant animals can lift your spirit. You can smell it, taste it, and feel a well-cared for home and family right away. Upon stepping across the threshold into a friend’s house, you can often sense the quality of life for the humans, pets, and plants just by open eyes and casual observation. When a house has healthy plants, clean windowsills, and fresh air, you can tell that the members of the house are thriving, too. On the other hand, a closed atmosphere with stale air or pet odors can stifle the health of a family and make a visit unpleasant. Luckily, many of these factors are in our control. We can create the environment we want, starting with a careful look at our own health and that of our family members (human and canine alike), then moving on to a healthy space filled with love and positive energy. Last month we brought you lots of ideas about food to feed your dog.
This month we focus on many aspects of health and wellness for your canine companions.
How are you taking care of yourself and your pup? Are you up to date on all of your appointments and your pup’s maintenance and care? Now is a great time to consider the amazing Bay Area options for keeping your whole family healthy and whole. Medicine can be preventative, on-going, or emergency – but taking steps to ensure that Fido’s coat is healthy, his teeth are clean, and his exercise routine is solid can go a long way toward ensuring your own healthy peace of mind. We bring you Veronica Boutelle’s tips and tricks for finding a great dog walker so that Fido is well-run and socialized.
If you’ve ever been to the chiropractor, you surely know how wonderfully freeing it can be to receive those massage points and loosening cracks. Dr. Ilana Strubel illuminates the elements and benefits of canine chiropractic care in her informative article. Sometimes dogs take medicine, and a lot of the time, it’s not easy to administer. This month canine pharmacologist Eddie Lau offers us a variety of solutions to keep our dog’s medicine regimen on track.Who would have thought that chew treats and massage cream could serve the same purpose as pesky pills?
And finally, Halloween will be here before we know it! David York offers five easy ways to keep your pup away from dangerous treats that could harm their health. Along with our regular columns and departments, you’ll find lots of helpful information and inspiring articles right in these pages. Enjoy the month, and I hope that by November you’ll be on your way to a shiny coat and a hearty, healthy companion. See you after Halloween!
