Happy Summer! It feels great to see the seasons pass and welcome in the summertime! Even though San Francisco will be foggy and cold until September, I love to feel the change of seasons and a big bonus of spring and summer is seeing so many puppies out with their newfound families! What a wonderful time to welcome a new dog into your home. Summer affords us a little more flexibility at work, and a little more energy to burn: there is no better time to visit your local rescue and find a new family member.

Just last weekend, I was having lunch in Hayes Valley, and I was amazed by how many adorable dogs paraded by my sidewalk lunch spot. Dogs in all sizes led their window-shopping owners up and down the strip. At one point four waist high dogs (if your waist is a bit close to the ground like mine is) convened on the sidewalk, sniffing and examining each other in that subtly adorable dog-way. The crowd laughed together, each with their hand resting easily on the gentle slope of their dog’s back. So cute.

A few minutes later it was a mini-dog fest. Two tiny Australian shepherds and a Chihuahua mix circled each other, did some adorable roly-poly moves and moved on. I saw dogs with ribbons in their hair, others with toddlers at the end of their leash and a few roaming around, leash-free and thrilled about it. The dogs on parade in Hayes Valley or the happy party on any afternoon in Duboce Park are a wonderful reminder how much love and devotion our dogs bring to our lives. This month’s issue is all about what’s trending in the dog world.

So what is hot in the dog-world these days? This month we explore all sorts of ways that dogs are impacting our city. We’ve got a focus on Dog and Tech – but each article tells a different story about what’s hip and hot as summer approaches. Starting off with a bit of fashion advice we have a story from Dan Perdios, a lover of Golden Retrievers who explores the pros and cons of a close shave in the summer. Dan has done his homework on this subject, so it’s fun to learn more about the furry decisions he made for his long line of pups. Second in the what’s new and hip trend-section is an article from Mijo & Bambi owner Christine Lopez. Christine is the founder and owner of a clothing line for pups. She walks us through the process of dressing your dog with great fashion tips and history of canine clothing.

We all know what’s trending in the San Francisco work-scene – tech! This month we feature a review of some great apps to help with your dog care and maintenance. Janet Fullerwood from Dog Trekker reviews a bunch of great apps to find out which ones are worth your pennies. We also feature a story about stories. Dogs gone digital is the topic of a new Farfaria online children’s story. In this early-reader teaching tool for children, we see adorable dogs taking selfies – just like everyone else on the planet!

All these great stories along with an editorial update on the GGNRA controversy and our monthly columns add up to a cool read for a warm summer day. So stroll on over to Bi-Rite with your pup, grab an ice cream cone and a copy of Bay Woof and enjoy the read. See you in July!
