Who better to explore and evaluate the dog blogosphere than Bay Woof’s humor columnist, Herb Canine, wry commentator on all things weird and wonderful?
Some of his favorite finds are presented here. You will find that one blog leads to another as you explore links and follow virtual pathways to places you never heard of. That’s the appeal of blogs: short, snappy, speedy to read, and infinitely connected to other gems on the Web. Caveat: Surfing the virtual dog world can be time-intensive – don’t forget to walk the real dog!
The Daily Puglet
As fun and satisfying as a pint with a slice, in this case, the pint-sized, slice-of-life daily adventures from a certain perky Pug’s perspective. You’d think a Pug would have the language skills of Joe Palooka but this one writes pretty well. Super witty and wonderful, with lots of great photos.
My Dog Life
Another blog by a dog, this one named Happy. Bonus: He (?) is tres multi-media savvy. Many posts include slide shows and Youtube videos so you can watch Happy frisking about, playing with his human or skipping down a rocky traverse on Mt. Tam. Excellent photography with many familiar and spectacular Bay Area backdrops.
The Poodle (and dog) Blog
thepoodleanddogblog.typepad.com
Written by a human based in N. California, retired college professor Jan, this newsy little site is loaded with posts and links. Read all about a fundraising effort involving dogs wearing collar cams that snap photos at random moments. There’s also a touching video of Jimmy Stewart tearfully reading a poem he wrote about his late dog Bo. Topical and entertaining.
icanhascheezburger (formerly ihasahotdog)
Now that the LOL blog “Ihasahotdog” is a book, its moniker has changed to icanhascheezburger. Don’t know why. Maybe now the blogger can afford to order from the dinner menu. His simply brilliant idea: have readers upload pix and videos of their dogs, with (or without) captions written the way dogs might talk, then let other readers re-caption them, as desired. Cute, goofy, often hilarious. I laffin til I haz a hott dog kumin outta mi noze.
Daily Dog Scoop
Scoop, the author of this wide-ranging blog, is less self-absorbed than most other doggie bloggers. Many of his posts are celebrity driven — about Mark Zuckerman’s puppy’s new Facebook page, for instance, or Justin Bieber’s sale of his hair on Ebay for $40,000 to benefit a rescue group for farm animals (including dogs). Highly interesting stories. Scoop doesn’t post more than twice a month, unfortunately. Enjoy the archives while you wait for something new.
