Canine Wine Country

If you’re anything like us, you try to take your dogs with you to as many places as possible. It just makes the whole experience better. As wine industry veterans, we thought the wine tasting experience should be no different.

Twenty years ago, when my husband Chris and I were first discussing starting our own winery, we knew we wanted to create something really meaningful. Thus was born the Mutt Lynch Winery mission of both making great wine while helping animals in need. Our labels celebrate both the whimsical and deep connection between man and dog and occasionally (okay frequently) take a swipe at the pretentiousness of the wine country experience. We also donate a portion of all of our revenue to worthy animal rescue organizations. The seriousness of the mission however, doesn’t prevent us from delivering a world-class wine country experience for you and your dog.

While it goes without saying that no dog should EVER be given alcohol, there’s no reason to exclude your pet from the “Full Fido” wine country lifestyle. Our tasting room is always dog-friendly with both water and treats available in abundance. And not just any treats, I might add! For the discriminating canine palate we serve gourmet offerings from some of Sonoma’s finest–Three Dog Bakery, Fideaux and our newest partner Costeaux French Bakery.

If you really want a chance to sniff and mingle with a purpose, we recommend that you join us for our “Yappy Hours.” These are our regularly scheduled (the second Friday of every month) fundraisers for local organizations needing your financial support. 100% of our door fees go to assisting these organizations in the incredible work they do. In the past, these themed events have included everything from our “Yappy Howl-O-Ween Spooktacular,” to our “Holiday Ugly Sweater Contest,” and “Lucky Dog Wearing of the Green Party” and many more. If there’s something to celebrate involving wine and dogs we’re the place to be.

Our newest location in Windsor also allows you to pop out the door for a quick visit to a very dog-friendly park on the square and enjoy even more wine-country canine hospitality. The town of Windsor hosts many events throughout the year that welcome man’s best friend.

While we might have been among the first, more and more wineries are recognizing that the wine tasting experience is just that much better when your canine companion can join you in the fun. So be assured that if you’re thinking about coming up for a taste of the good life, there are places that will welcome you and your dog. Just be sure to call each venue well in advance to confirm what their dog policies are (each is different) and you’ll be set for your canine wine excursion. Bay Woof is of course, a great source for finding canine-friendly locations.

We’re proud to have been voted a Beast of The Bay winner for multiple years and we look forward to spending time with you. Our motto, written by SARK, has always been: “Apply Dog Logic to Life: Eat Well, Be Loved, Get Petted, Sleep A Lot, and Dream of a Leash-Free World.”

Our glasses are raised and the biscuit jar is full. We hope to see you soon!

Brenda and Chris Lynch are wine industry veterans who combined their love of “wine and all things dog” to form Mutt Lynch Winery in 1995. The winery donates a portion of all annual proceeds to animal rescue organizations and has a unique non-profit partner program that assists rescue organizations in their fundraising efforts. With responsibilities that keep them traveling frequently, they are delighted when they can spend extended periods of time in their beloved Bay Area. This year the couple will celebrate 20 years of wedded and winemaking bliss.
