Divine Dog Digs on the SF Bay

Traveling with dogs is filled with many lessons and miracles; beginning with their daily early morning message to me: It’s time to go outside, now, bow wow. Every day our dogs draw us closer to the relationships that are good for our health: physically, emotionally, and spiritually. For me, interactions with and responsibility for, our two 5-year-old short hair collies are a sweet and unending source of this inspiration. Especially having Savannah from the litter and Donovan from rescue. They bring different aspects of their unique experiences to the love and companionship we share. My wife, Tara, is with me every step, so each day has the fun and laughter of a true partnership and family.

When I was young and single, I backpacked to many lodgings far from the beaten trails. Over the years I steadily upgraded until I was staying in Presidential Suites and Private Villas in the world’s most glittering locations. Last month concluded a 6 1/2-week stay, with my spouse and our two 50 pound collies on the cove at Oyster Point, right here, in the S.F. Bay area. This was an economical adventure, which exceeded our expectations, in a very dog-hospitable studio at the Marriott Residence Inn.

Here’s a short tale of the two of us with our two tail friends enjoying everything Oyster Point has to offer. From easy first-floor rear access to the green miles of trails around the marinas, yacht clubs, and new biotech architecture of the new South San Francisco, we found this place delightful.
The hotel provided us the ideal studio on the first floor by a rear door onto one of the green areas. The greatest and most unexpected value we received was right outside that door of the Residence Inn. Here the many miles of paths built along the water of this cove, in both directions, take us and our dogs on varied and happy excursions. Originally this area was used to build the Liberty Ships to sustain our World War II shipping industry, employing so many local residents. Remnants of those structures remain as a reminder of our patriotic past. Now we got to walk past the Brisbane Marina and yacht club of South San Francisco, as well as other hotels and the Inn at Oyster Point. One day we even discovered a lone dolphin who had found a secret fishing spot that he returned to often during our stay.

The hotel itself was very comfortable and affordable. We felt like family, and our dogs were more than welcome. Not only were our accommodations perfect, but the staff always made us aware of the numerous free amenities the hotel provided and the many ways to take full advantage of the resources, restaurants, and ferries that the neighborhood provided. If you are a Bay Area local with plans for a “staycation” with your pup or pups, I can recommend Oyster Point Marriott Residence Inn.
