DogTV (dogtv.com), the world’s first 24/7 digital television channel for dogs and their people, recently selected five special canines to honor as the World’s Most Powerful Dogs of 2013. They have been in the spotlight this past year for their roles in TV shows and movies, or for their success in competitions – from the sublime to the ridiculous. Here are the network’s celebrity picks.
Baxter – Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues hasn’t even hit theaters and already its canine star has it made. Baxter, trusted companion of Ron Burgundy (played by Will Ferrell), won hearts in the first installment and has been seen doing some major press for the second film. The Border Terrier plays an even larger role in the second film, which, according to Ferrell, has given him quite the ego – his extravagant demands nearly costing the entire shoot.
Giggy – Vanderpump Rules/Real Housewives of Beverly Hills
By far the best-dressed pup on TV, Giggy has warmed the hearts of millions on not one but two BRAVO shows. The Pomeranian has nearly outshone his fabulous owner, Lisa Vanderpump, with his accessorizing ways. “It’s very hard,” Vanderpump told BuzzFeed. “He’s got one paw here, one paw there. Some days everyone wants a piece of him. He’s done five talk shows this week.”
Jewel – Winner of National Dog Show 2013
The National Dog Show is a Thanksgiving tradition that some take more seriously than any parade or football game. This year, a three-year-old American Foxhound named Jewel, took home the “Best in Show” title – beating out more than 1,500 competitors – and the grand prize of more than $20,000. Jewel also holds the “Best in Group” title from the 2012 National Dog Show – making her the top-winning American Foxhound in the history of the breed.
Walle – World’s Ugliest Dog 2013
While Jewel may be the best of the best, Walle is the best of the worst. A mutt with a face only a mother could love, Walle was awarded first place in the World’s Ugliest Dog competition. Along with a $1,500 prize, Walle’s win earned him appearances on TODAY and Jimmy Kimmel.
Isis – Downton Abbey
Isis lives in the lap of luxury as the Earl of Grantham’s beloved Labrador. With viewers in more than 100 countries, Downton Abbey is one of the most popular British imports since the Spice Girls. Working alongside major stars like Dame Maggie Smith, Isis has held her own and even had an entire episode dedicated to her.
