Every Dog is a Winner at DogFest

Does your dog do the best trick? Have the prettiest coat? Wear the cutest costume? Prove it to the world, or at least to San Francisco, at the City’s most exciting celebration of all things canine, DogFest!

DogFest, where every dog is a winner, takes place on Saturday, April 14, from 11am to 4pm in Duboce Park. The event is free to attend, with a fee to enter the dog show. Delicious food and tickets for fun children’s games are also available for purchase.

No need to be a purebred to take home top dog honors at this festival. The “Everyday Dog Show” invites dogs of all sizes, shapes, and breeds to strut their stuff in a number of lighthearted doggy competitions. Categories include: Best Costume, Best Coat, Best Trick, Best Bark, Best Look-Alike, and more. Pre-registration is highly encouraged for these popular contests, as they tend to fill up quickly on the day of the event. Sign up in advance at sfdogfest.com.

If your pup is too shy to prance, you will both still find enough entertainment to keep your tails wagging for hours. The Busy Bee Dogs hit the stage at 1pm and 3:15pm with a high-energy round of canine tricks and treats to delight all audiences. Local comedian and composer, Tom Orr, will provide a hilarious tribute to our favorite four-legged friends.

DogFest is proud to welcome back official Lemony Snicket representative, Daniel Handler, as emcee. A fleet of celebrity judges, including Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Go’s and author Dave Eggers, will be on hand to cast their ballots for the prize-winning pooches.

Everyone is invited to watch or join in the canine contests, catch the entertainment. Take a stroll through the aisles of the many canine vendors or find true love in the Rescue Zone. Non-dog children’s activities include carnival games, face painting, and jumpy houses, and all take place throughout the day. You can increase the fun by bidding on great auction prizes and buying tickets for the raffle.

DogFest is one of San Francisco’s favorite celebrations of dogs and kids, and all proceeds benefit SFUSD McKinley Elementary School, a K-5 public school at Castro and 14th Streets to help offset continued cuts to public education funding and directly help McKinley children.

DogFest is made possible by generous underwriting from lead sponsor, Chase Bank, as well as sponsorship from Big Dogs, the Walking Company, Whole Foods, Macy’s, Pet Food Express, Tagg, Varsity Technologies, P.L.A.Y., Bonnie Spindler, K-9 Scrub Club, The Animal House, and Bay Woof.
