To distract us all from such stressful things as debt ceilings and budget battles, we decided to instigate a few grins by asking readers to submit stories and photos about their funny dogs. Here is a sampling of what we received.
If you’d like to be considered for a future Funny Dogs feature, send your high-res photos and brief comments (no more than 100 words) to: funnydogs@baywoof.com.
GiGi

Submitted by Whitney Wilde of Santa Cruz, www.woofersandwalkers.com
Most folks think my pooch’s name is GiGi, but really, it is G.G. and stands for Goofy Girl. From the first day, she went out of her way to make me laugh and will repeat any action if rewarded with laughter. Favorite tricks involve GiGi launching all 80 pounds of Belgian Malinois into aerial acrobatics of leaps and pirouettes of joy… inviting me to dance in her own way. She never fails to make me laugh and is the bright part of my days.
Lego

Submitted by Cathy Chen-Rennie, www.rexcenter.com
When Lego the French Bulldog came to visit The Rex Center for the first time, we let him off-leash next to the pool so he could explore. He must have thought the pool was a fountain (where he normally played) because he hopped in the deep end! I jumped in to rescue him because not all dogs know how to swim right away. He was fine, albeit a little wet… so we laughed and went on to teach him to swim! You can watch at www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoLcwrVsaTE&fmt=18.
Wookie

Submitted by Kate Sterns of Oakland
I found Wookie when I was volunteering for Hopalong Animal Rescue in 2006. Wookie is small but mighty – his legs are only about four inches long, but he somehow keeps up with the big dogs. He looks like a running sausage! He also lets me dress him in costumes, lets kids give him rides around the neighborhood in a dog roll-aboard, and will snarl on command. He keeps me laughing every day.
Hobo

Submitted by Heather Lussier of Los Altos, www.poshpoochportraits.com
My little love bug Hobo keeps us always entertained and laughing, whether he’s sweetly snuggling or wrestling with one of his doggie friends. He was a rescue dog from Furry Friends Rescue and we weren’t sure about him at first, but he has turned out to be the sweetest dog ever. He just cracks us up to no end when he acts like such a tough guy, like pictured here.
Kai

Submitted by Maribel Izquierdo-Rodriguez of Pinole
I adopted Kai from Hopalong Animal Rescue. He’s a real clown! One of his favorite toys is this huge rope that he likes to battle with. It’s so much fun to him to swing it, toss it up in the air, and catch it. Then he comes and sits in front of me with those big innocent eyes to show off… “See what I did, mom?” Not a day goes by without him reminding me what life is about: to be happy and have fun!
Quinn

Submitted by Dr. Nancy Kay of Sebastopol, www.speakingforspot.com
My dog Quinn is often mistaken for a fox, not only because of the way he looks, but also because of the way he leaps in the air and pounces on imaginary prey. Quinn is a two-year-old mutt rescued out of a Bakersfield high kill shelter. He is a gem of a dog with a wonderful sense of humor and is one of the most agile beasts I’ve ever encountered.
