Petplan Pet Insurance recently announced that Alan Stewart, DVM, DACVIM, has been named the “2012 Veterinarian of the Year” as part of the company’s awards program. Dr. Stewart is an internal medicine specialist at VCA San Francisco Veterinary Specialists, located in the Mission/Potrero Hill District.
The Petplan judging panel whittled a list of 2,000 client and colleague nominations to 10 shortlisted veterinarians, then to a trio of finalists, before ultimately selecting Dr. Stewart as the winner. Dr. Stewart was chosen for his impact on veterinary medicine, commitment to providing an exceptional level of care to pets, and exemplary customer service.
In addition to his practice at VCA SFVS, Dr. Stewart is a project coordinator for San Francisco Aid for Animals, an initiative of the San Francisco Veterinary Medical Association. SFAfA seeks to provide charitable veterinary services otherwise unavailable to pet owners in the community, and to serve as a safety net for clients who may not qualify for assistance elsewhere and are facing life-and-death decisions for their animal companions.
Commenting on the award, Dr. Stewart said, “I am sincerely indebted and humbled to be recognized for a lifetime of commitment to a profession I am passionate about.”
