Think out the Details

Traveling with Fido can often be an overwhelming task, but it doesn’t have to be. Before you hit the road, consider a few helpful hints.

Car safety: Consider your dog’s safety in the car and on the road. If you want your dog to sit on the seat, use a dog seatbelt. This allows your dog to move around, but it provides restraint in the case of an accident. If you drive an SUV, use a gate to keep restless pooches from jumping from the back to the front.

Find a pet-friendly hotel: Book before you go. Many pet-friendly hotels, however, will not allow your furry friend to be left alone in the room alone, so consider taking your pooch to a nearby doggie day care facility or hiring a pet sitter to keep your fur ball company.

When he can’t come: Book him an overnight stay with a reputable dog-care provider. Many make it easy to see how he’s doing via on-the-go Smartphone apps and web-cam features. Or let your pet stay at home with a quality pet-care professional. Many pet-care providers offer at-home visits for those whose dogs simply can’t make the trip.
