Other shelters have also used this model successfully, including many in the Bay Area, demonstrating that there is a formula that actually works to save animals – essentially, involving the public in simple activities such as adoption fairs and low-cost spay and neuter clinics.
This book is likely to blow away your current (mis)conceptions about pet overpopulation, euthanasia, animal welfare institutions, and their leaders. Winograd’s spotlight exposes attitudes of complacency and greed, some of it in very high places.
