If you love dogs and art, Bitchin’ is a dog-oriented exhibition you won’t want to miss, and it’s on display through July 11 at Creativity Explored in San Francisco with a satellite show at the Humane Society of Silicon Valley in Milpitas through June 29. Bitchin’ is billed as “An Art Show for Humans and Dogs.”
Bay Woof — and resident dog Wiley — attended the opening reception of the exhibition on May 9 at the nonprofit visual art studio for artists with developmental disabilities. Bay Woof and Wiley visited with several of the artists, including Yukari Sakura and Zachary Adams, who gave Wiley lots of pets and attention. Sakura had constructed extra-large and extra-awesome fur-lined cutouts of festooned hounds — perfect for selfies. Admas’ mixed-media work on paper, Untitled (Three Dogs), was a trio of floppy-eared smiling dogs.
The exhibition features more than two-dozen utterly admirable and amazing drawings, paintings, and sculptures of dogs in all forms and pays tribute to humans’ bonds with canines. In conjunction, CE staged a special dog’s-eye-view mini exhibition — mounted at baseboard level — in an artificial-turfed narrow hallway, where Wiley enjoyed the added balls and squeaky toys more than the art.
At the opening, Creativity Explored introduced new products featuring dog artwork by CE artists, including enamel pins, limited-edition discs, scarves, and canvas carry-all bags featuring artwork by CE artist Andrew Li.
Creativity Explored scheduled other events to coincide with the show. For instance, CE hosted a Raise the Woof Adoption Day at the Mission District studio with Family Dog Rescue on May 18 and planned a second with Muttville Senior Dog Rescue on Sat., June 15, 12-4 p.m. Additionally, CE partnered with The Bark for a panel discussion on May 23.
Curated by Cléa Massiani, Bitchin’ runs through July 11 at Creativity Explored, 3245 16th St., San Francisco; gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon.-Wed. and Fri., 10 a.m.- 7 p.m. Thu., and 12-5 p.m. Sat.; www.CreativityExplored.org; 50 percent of the proceeds from art sales benefit the artists directly. Meanwhile, South Bay dwellers can catch some of the dog art at a satellite exhibition of Bitchin’ on view at Humane Society of Silicon Valley, 901 Ames Ave., Milpitas, through June 29.
