FDA Pet Treat Health Alert
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a health warning to consumers regarding certain pig ears and beef hooves pet treats made by Pet Carousel because the products may be tainted with Salmonella. There have been no verified cases of illness, but the products were made under conditions that facilitate cross-contamination, hence the warning.
The FDA’s inspection of the Pet Carousel facility was prompted by routine testing that discovered salmonella in one of the company’s pig ears. Pig ear products to avoid include the brand names Doggie Delight and Pet Carousel. Affected beef hooves include the brand names Choo Hooves, Dentley’s, Doggie Delight, and Pet Carousel. All sizes and all lots of these products made by Pet Carousel are included in this alert.
Dog-Soldier Reunion Videos
A hearty salute to The Huffington Post for creating a Veteran’s Day video feature for their website that shows soldiers being greeted by their dogs as they return home from the field after many months of absence. “Heart-warming” doesn’t begin to capture the emotional impact of some of these videos. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll definitely want to hold your own dogs close. Witness the love at www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/13/dogs-greet-soldiers-retur_n_356672.html. Submissions of soldier-canine reunion videos are still welcome.
