Piedmont's First Pet Mayor

Congratulations to Zion, Piedmont’s first Pet Mayor. Yorkie Zion will be ably assisted by Vice Mayor Meloso, a Pit Bull/Boxer, and by Canine Commissioner Rocky, an English Springer Spaniel.

The Montclair Pet Mayor contest, hosted by Holistic Veterinary Care, this year was extended to include a Piedmont contest. Candidates are sponsored by local businesses who, Bay Woof hears, fight tooth-and-nail for the top positions. Yorkie was sponsored by Fentons Creamery, Meloso by Body by Melisa, and Rocky by Given Gold Jewelry. Murphy, a Chocolate Labrador Retriever, is currently reigning as Montclair Pet Mayor.

“We are thrilled to have raised over $6,500 with this year’s contest,” Dr. Gary Richter, Montclair Veterinary Hospital Medical Director reported. “The proceeds from the contest support the activities of the Montclair Pet and Wildlife Fund. Last year alone, we donated nearly $100,000 worth of veterinary care to help injured wildlife ranging from foxes and opossums, to crows and rabbits.”

Veterinarians at Montclair Veterinary Hospital dedicate their time and expertise to help injured wildlife found by East Bay community members. The Pet & Wildlife Fund discounts services to pets owned by several local schools, community groups and rescue organizations.
