To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Citizen Canine, a popular dog boarding hotel and day care in Oakland, hosted a dog-friendly benefit for the East Bay SPCA, Hopalong Animal Rescue, and Open Paw on February 12.
Entitled WAGS & WUV, the event was a great success and a ton of fun. Over 150 guests attended and over $4,000 was raised to support the continued humane care and placement of the Bay Area’s homeless animals.
Lucky dog owners won over $500 in raffle prizes donated by event sponsors such as Alpha Pet Supply (Albany), Dog Bone Alley (Alameda), George pet store (Berkeley), Pet Food Express, and Russian River Adventures (Healdsburg). The luckiest dogs were those who found their forever homes thanks to the efforts of adoption volunteers.
Guests enjoyed food and beverages from local vendors, live music by Alice Tong, an in-depth Q&A with dog behaviorist and esteemed Bay Woof columnist Dr. Ian Dunbar of SIRIUS Dog Training, canine nose-work and agility demonstrations, a pet photo booth with Angela Lang, and a delightful dog costume contest.
