The greater San Francisco Bay Area is rich and diverse in so many ways. Let’s take a moment right now to notice and celebrate that fact.  Whatever you might delight in is likely available within a few miles of where you sit. This goes for your dog’s favorite things, as well. Chances are there is a vast universe of canine-centered people, places, and events right outside your door.

This issue taps all this abundance in a sampling of dog news, advice, and opinion. First up is a report on Berkeley Humane’s efforts to regroup after a fire destroyed part of its ninth street facility. Things are going well, but help is still needed.

This training involves shock collars, a tool she and her fellow positive reinforcement trainers would never employ. We invited her to enlighten our readers on the subject. Please take her appeal to heart.

Finding diamonds amidst all the rough out there on the World Wide Web can be a daunting task. Dr. Nancy Kay, author of the bestselling book Speaking for Spot and a practicing veterinarian in Rohnert Park, makes it easier with some great advice on surfing for veterinary info.

Peggy Greenfield of Lake County files a memo from The Dept. of Barks and Rec. Read it, then go play with your dog.
